Hodan Center, Inc.
A Community Rehabilitation Program
for Adults with Disabilities

Rehabilitation and Education

Therapy Carry-overs

As a complement to our Therapy services, the Enrichment Activities program follows through with therapists’ orders and offers opportunities during the day to utilize our new Universal gym and/or recumbent bike. This equipment is available for use during non-program hours by anyone with disabilities in the community. Please call for more information. Outdoor activities are offered including walking on trails or at local parks, horseback riding, and a variety of sports. We encourage all to join in to keep physically fit.

Swim Spa

Also in our Enrichment Activities program is our 14-foot swim spa. This pool features a hydraulic swim lift to assist non-ambulatory people in and out of the water. Approximately 50 client-employees a week choose to use the spa for therapy, recreation, or relaxation. The swim spa is also open to the community after 3 p.m. daily for people with disabilities. Please call for more details.

Bicycle Recreation Program

As part of Hodan Center’s Enrichment Activities Program, special adapted bicycles have been acquired that offer people with various cognitive and physical disabilities the opportunity to ride for both exercise and recreation.

Community Integration

Many opportunities are offered as part of the community integration aspect of Enrichment Activities. Fishing, bowling, art shows, movies, golf, music, shopping, and clean up at local parks are some of the favorites. We will be volunteering with community gardening projects in Mineral Point and Platteville this year.

Art Programs

Creative opportunities for art and/or music are presented during the year. Client-employees’ artwork that was done through “Very Special Arts of Wisconsin” is displayed throughout our Center. We also participate in art programs at local studios, including Shake Rag Alley. We enjoy music provided by a variety of performers. In addition, we provide in-house art and music programs.

Adult Basic Education

Hodan Center offers Adult Basic Education to our client-employees as yet another way to enrich their lives. Classes in reading, computer skills, current events, health and nutrition, social skills and writing allow client-employees to learn new skills or continue expanding their knowledge. The curriculum is determined by individual requests.

Transition Services for Students with Disabilities

The Hodan Center is available to assist students, their families, and school personnel through the transition process. A Transition Coordinator will assist local schools in identifying transition needs for students with disabilities through their IEP team process. The Transition Coordinator is available to attend IEP meetings for students age 14 and older who are in the process of developing their transition goals. Information will be provided regarding all of the services and supports available through the Hodan Center.

Tours are available for students, their families, and teachers to get a first hand look at what the Center is able to provide. This is highly recommended to assure that the students and their families are making an informed decision on whether or not to participate in Center activities/training.

If it is determined that participation in the Center’s programs is appropriate for the student’s transition needs, the Transition Coordinator will work with the IEP team to develop goals as they relate to the IEP. A schedule will be developed based on the individual student’s needs, wishes, and availability.
